Sounding the Alarm

In her recent Guest Editorial for the Georgia House of Representatives, which you can read on our previous blog entry from January 15, 2025, retired representative Penny Houston has sounded the alarm on the rise of child abuse and neglect in south GA. Ms Houston is spot on when she states that our children are at risk as the alarming trend of abuse and neglect continues to rise in south GA. This is not a minor issue, but a severe and escalating problem that demands our immediate attention.

Ms. Houston gives excellent strategies to begin to stem the tide of children who will experience the crisis of abuse and neglect that will crack the very foundation on which they will build their adulthood. I have been in the child welfare field for over 30 years, and I can't recall a time when I have seen such extreme cases of abuse and neglect of children. We must do everything in our power to protect children. They are our entrusted, and they are our future. We can and must do better for the next generation of Georgians, and this requires a united effort.

Ms. Houston has retired from the GA House of Representatives, but she is even more in the trenches with those of us who will continue the effort and fight to protect the most vulnerable of Georgia's citizens, her children. Although she is in her eighties, she has the energy and spark of a woman much younger. She leads the way in protecting children. It is an honor to work with her. Please join us in the fight to protect the vulnerable. Georgia's children have the right to grow up in safe and stable homes free from fear, abuse, and neglect.
